In May and July 2024, London experienced two significant electoral events: the GLA and London Mayoral elections, followed by the General Election. This presented considerable administrative and logistical challenges for the city's boroughs, which are responsible for election delivery.
Adding to the complexity, these elections marked the first major implementation of new regulations, including mandatory voter ID, changes to constituent boundaries, the requirement of a National Insurance number for postal votes, and alterations to the overall voting system.

Hackney Design Studio started with interviews of the leader and senior leadership teams to get a better understanding of the requirements, history and culture of the organisation. This provided us a key narrative to build a series of creative options for politicians and officers to debate.
The chosen logo highlights an abstract shape based on the letter M, with two equal shapes leaning towards each other, or coming together. The logo is balanced with a classic modern san serif font with softened rounded edges. The colour ways is purposefully green and purple which reflects the Councils links to it’s sporting heritage and the green spaces and parks which make Merton one of the greenest boroughs in the capital.
