Hackney Central, a primary town centre and transportation hub in Hackney, is known for its culture and nightlife. This area, marked by significant landmarks and development opportunities, is slated for major transformation.
As outlined in the Hackney Central Town Centre Strategy, these changes will focus on delivering new housing, employment opportunities, and essential infrastructure.

The Regeneration and Economic Development teams commissioned Hackney Design Studio, to develop a place-based regeneration brand for Hackney Central. This brand aimed to resonate with diverse stakeholders, including central government, local businesses, and residents. The brand assets were required to be adaptable for use in various formats such as community events, social media, newsletters, hoardings, and press releases.

Hackney Design Studio, built upon its experience in Dalston to develop a logo for the main area. Working with a broader team, we identified four themes to broaden the colour palette while maintaining the corporate brand. Each theme received a unique colour set. To connect with Hackney Central's diverse community, we designed cultural and area-specific illustrations for each theme, ensuring relevance for local residents and businesses.
To ensure brand consistency across all platforms, the designers produced a detailed brand guide and presentation. We also created banners, consultation boards, and flyers for community engagement with businesses and residents. The designs are now publicly displayed as street banners and mesh fencing wraps. Ongoing communication with affected businesses and residents is maintained throughout the project.
